Dr. rer. medic. Christopher Spiegel is the new face at Valicare for everything relating to medical devices. As Senior Medical Device Consultant, he has been responsible for expanding the MedTech business since October 2024. His customers benefit from his many years of know-how in science and industry.
Following the successive expansion of its GMP consulting offer, Valicare is now adding the MedTech section by appointing Christopher Spiegel as Senior Medical Device Consultant in October 2024. “We are very pleased to focus even more on these promising applications,” says Dr. Hans-Georg Eckert, Managing Director of Valicare GmbH in Frankfurt. “With Christopher Spiegel, we have gained an experienced professional who has an excellent knowledge of medical devices from class 1 to 3.”
Focus on comprehensive consulting and growth
Besides sales and the development of a medical device team, Christopher Spiegel's main areas of responsibility also cover comprehensive customer consulting. This includes regulatory compliance, risk management according to ISO-14971, biocompatibility assessment according to ISO-10993, quality management according to ISO-13485, as well as qualification and validation. “From the very beginning, I was given a great deal of trust and creative freedom,” says Spiegel. “With the systematic expansion of the medical device team, I will now use these opportunities for the benefit of Valicare and our customers.”
Taking a detour to biotechnology
Christopher Spiegel gained the necessary experience during research residencies at renowned universities, in doctoral assignments in specialized companies, as well as in numerous consulting projects with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers of all sizes. It is all the more surprising that his career began in a completely different field: “I started my professional life in my father's company, training to become a central heating and ventilation engineer. However, I had always been fascinated by biotechnology,” explains Spiegel.
Lots of room for development
He completed his technical college entrance qualification and switched to biotechnology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s in the area of regenerative medicine, followed by his PhD with a focus on the lipidomics of glycosphingolipids. Next came professional consulting positions, where Christopher Spiegel was involved in projects at Carl Zeiss Meditec, Roche Diabetes Care and B.Braun, among others. In October, the time had come for the next career step at Valicare. “I am very happy about this opportunity for professional development and look forward to working with my great colleagues.” Valicare wholeheartedly agrees and is looking forward to the upcoming tasks in the medical device manufacturing business, which is both old and new from the company's perspective.
